What Is LIFT?
The aim of LIFT is to take barbell/dumbbell classes at World
Health to the next level. We will do this by using current
programming techniques as well as time tested techniques to achieve
mobility, stability and, of course, fitness.
Weights in group exercise have traditionally been based on body
building type movements and trying to emulate isolation type
exercises to firm and tone muscle. One of the challenges associated
with this mentality is that the average gym goer doesn't want to
look like a body builder nor do they have time.
In this class we are going to look at some of the common
imbalances that people are dealing with and what sort of movements
our clients need. There will also be discussion about the "movement
mentality" which can be called functional training, complex
training, or a multitude of other names.
LIFT also focuses on movement patterns and how to improve these
movements instead of which individual muscle is being worked on.
Special attention will be placed on the use of mobility drills in
conjunction with stretching as well as discuss the need to address
multiple energy systems and how this can help our clients on a day
to day basis.
